3. Teaching and Learning Activities Teacher Activities: Introduction (10 minutes): Begin by reminding students about the importance of the Qur'an as Allah's word and its role in a Muslim's life. Briefly introduce the names of the Surahs and Ayats to be covered. Explain that accurate recitation and understanding their meanings are key to drawing lessons.
Recitation and Pronunciation (20 minutes): Display the Arabic texts of Suratul-Alaq (1-5), Suratul-Qariah (complete), and Suratul Luqman (12-19) on a whiteboard or flipchart, ensuring clear visibility. Recite each Surah/Ayat slowly and clearly, verse by verse, modeling correct Tajweed (pronunciation rules). Repeat each verse multiple times, allowing students to listen carefully. Break down longer verses into manageable phrases for easier absorption. Pay close attention to letters that are often mispronounced (e.g., ع, ح, ق, ض, ط, ظ, ث, ذ). Word Identification and Meaning (15 minutes): Point to specific key words identified in Section 2 (e.g., ٱقْرَأْ, ٱلْقَارِعَةُ, تُشۡرِكۡ) on the displayed text. Pronounce the word clearly and ask students to repeat. Provide the simple meaning of the word. Ask simple questions to check understanding (e.g., "What does 'Iqra'' mean?"). Explanation of Luqman's Wisdom (15 minutes): For Suratul Luqman (Ayat 12-19), after recitation and word identification, explain the moral lessons of each set of verses using simple, relatable language. Connect the advice to students' everyday experiences in Nigeria (e.g., respecting elders, being humble in school, helping parents, avoiding gossip). Facilitate a brief discussion on how Luqman's advice can make them better children and citizens.
Writing Practice (10 minutes): Demonstrate how to write specific short verses (e.g., Suratul-Alaq, verse 1; Suratul-Qariah, verse 1; Luqman, verse 13) on the board. Guide students on the correct formation of Arabic letters and connection of words.
Student Activities: Active Listening: Students listen attentively as the teacher recites and explains.
Choral Recitation: Students recite the Surahs and Ayats collectively after the teacher.
Individual Recitation: Selected students volunteer or are called upon to recite short portions individually, receiving feedback.
Word Repetition and Identification: Students repeat identified key words and provide their meanings when prompted.
Meaning Comprehension: Students answer questions about the meaning of verses and the lessons from Luqman's wisdom.
Writing Practice: Students write selected verses in their notebooks or on slates, imitating the teacher's writing.
Group Discussion: Students engage in small group discussions on how to apply Luqman's advice in their homes and schools.
4. Guided Practice (With Solutions)
1. Question: Recite the first five verses of Suratul-Alaq with correct pronunciation.
Solution: The teacher will listen to each student's recitation, assessing for accuracy (correct letters, vowels, pauses) and fluency.
Commentary: This checks objective 2 (recitation). Teacher provides immediate feedback on Tajweed.
2. Question: Write down Ayat 13 from Suratul Luqman in Arabic.
Solution: وَإِذۡ قَالَ لُقۡمَٰنُ لِٱبۡنِهِۦ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُۥ يَٰبُنَيَّ لَا تُشۡرِكۡ بِٱللَّهِۖ إِنَّ ٱلشِّرۡكَ لَظُلۡمٌ عَظِيمٌ
Commentary: This checks objective 1 (writing). Teacher ensures correct letter formation and connection.
3. Question: In Suratul-Qariah, what is the meaning of the word ٱلْجِبَالُ?
Solution: The meaning of ٱلْجِبَالُ is "mountains".
Commentary: This checks objective 3 (word identification). The teacher can ask students to point to the word in the Surah if displayed.
4. Question: Based on Suratul Luqman, mention one important advice Luqman gave to his son regarding his relationship with Allah.
Solution: Luqman advised his son: "Do not associate [anything] with Allah (lā tushrik billāhi)." He also stated that "indeed, association [with Him] is great injustice (inna ash-shirka la-ẓulmun ‘aẓīm)." Upon completion of this lesson, students will be able to: Accurately write selected verses and Surahs from the Qur'an. Fluently recite the designated Surahs and verses of the Glorious Qur'an with correct pronunciation.
