Hello Class 3! Today, we're diving into the wonderful world of Numbers! We use numbers every single day, from counting the number of oranges we have to sell at the market, to calculating how much money we need to buy our favourite kenkey. Understanding numbers well helps us in so many ways, making everyday life easier. This lesson focuses on mastering the basic concepts of numbers within our Primary 3 curriculum.
Understanding Place Value
Place value is the value of a digit based on its position in a number. For numbers up to 1000, we have three main place values: Hundreds (H): The digit in this place tells us how many hundreds there are. For example, in 345, the '3' represents 300. Tens (T): The digit in this place tells us how many tens there are. For example, in 345, the '4' represents 40. Ones (O): The digit in this place tells us how many ones there are. For example, in 345, the '5' represents 5.
Example 1: The number 287 Hundreds: 2 (200) Tens: 8 (80) Ones: 7 (7)
Therefore, 287 is 200 + 80 + 7.
