Science Lesson Note - B3 Grade 3 Overview and Learning Objectives Hello, Class 3! Today, we are going to explore the exciting world of matter. Everything around us – from the food we eat to the clothes we wear, and even the air we breathe – is made of matter. Understanding matter helps us appreciate the different things we see and use every day in Ghana. We will learn how to classify matter into different groups based on their properties and uses.

What is Matter?

Matter is anything that takes up space and has weight. That means everything you can touch, see, smell, or even things you can’t easily see like air, are matter.

Properties of Matter:

Properties are the things we can observe or measure about matter. Some important properties include: Colour: What the object looks like (e.g., red, blue, green, brown). Shape: The form of the object (e.g., round, square, long, irregular). Size: How big or small the object is (e.g., big, small, tall, short). Texture: How the object feels when you touch it (e.g., smooth, rough, hard, soft). Hardness: How easily an object can be scratched or dented (e.g., hard like stone, soft like cotton). Material: What the object is made of (e.g., wood, metal, plastic, cloth).
