This lesson introduces the fundamental building blocks of being physically fit. In Ghana, we are active every day—we play games like ampe and football, we help with chores like carrying water or sweeping, and we walk to school. Understanding physical fitness helps us know *how* our bodies work during these activities and how we can become stronger, healthier, and better at our favourite games. This knowledge empowers learners to take charge of their health, have more energy for their studies, and enjoy a lifetime of active living.
A. What is Physical Fitness?
Physical fitness is the body's ability to perform daily activities with energy and alertness, without getting overly tired, and with enough energy left to enjoy hobbies and handle unexpected emergencies. Simple Definition for Learners: "Being fit means your body is strong and healthy enough to do everything you need and want to do each day—like playing, learning, and doing chores—without feeling sick or too tired."
B. The Two "Families" of Physical Fitness
Think of physical fitness as a big family with two main branches. Each branch has different family members (components) that help our bodies in different ways. The Health-Related Fitness Family: These components help you stay healthy and prevent sickness. They are about the overall health of your body. The Skill-Related Fitness Family: These components help you perform well in sports and games. They are about the skills your body can do.
