In our daily lives in Ghana, we are constantly dealing with large numbers. A trader at Kejetia Market needs to calculate the total cost of hundreds of items. A farmer in the Volta Region needs to figure out the total number of yam tubers from many rows of mounds. A district assembly needs to share relief items equally among many families. Mastering multiplication and division of large numbers is not just for passing exams; it is a critical skill for managing finances, running a business, and solving everyday community problems. This lesson will equip you with the methods to handle these calculations confidently and accurately.
This lesson is divided into two main parts: Multiplication and Division. Part 1: Multiplication of Multi-digit Numbers
Multiplication is a fast way of doing repeated addition. When we multiply large numbers, we use a method called long multiplication.
Key Terms: Multiplicand: The number being multiplied. Multiplier: The number you multiply by. Product: The result or answer of the multiplication.
Method: The Standard Algorithm (Long Multiplication)
