Lesson summary

Energy is the ability to do work (make things move, heat up, light up, or change). In Ghana, energy affects our daily life: electricity bills (ECG/NEDCo), fuel costs for transport, school and home lighting, charging phones, and running appliances. Conserving energy means using energy wisely so we reduce waste, save money, and protect the environment (less air pollution and less pressure on power generation).

Lesson notes

A. Meaning of Energy Conservation Energy conservation (in daily life) means: Reducing energy waste (not using energy when it is not needed), Using efficient devices and methods (getting the same work done with less energy), Managing energy use (planning when and how we use energy).

> Note: In Physics, “law of conservation of energy” says energy cannot be created or destroyed. > In this lesson, we focus on conserving energy in practical life—reducing wastage.

B. Why Conserving Energy Matters (Ghana Context) Saves money: Lower ECG/NEDCo bills; less fuel bought. Reduces “dumsor” pressure: Less demand helps reduce load on the national grid. Protects the environment: Less burning of fuel means less smoke and greenhouse gases. Improves health: Less indoor smoke from inefficient cooking methods. Supports national development: Energy saved can be used for industries, hospitals, and schools.
