This lesson introduces our wonderful bodies! Knowing the parts of our body is the first step in learning how to take care of ourselves, stay healthy, and keep safe. In Ghana, we use our bodies to play games like 'ampe', dance 'Adowa', help our parents at home, and learn in school. By understanding our bodies, we learn to appreciate and care for the amazing things they can do, from tasting delicious *kelewele* with our mouths to seeing a beautiful rainbow with our eyes.
This lesson is about getting to know ourselves. Our body is like a machine with many important parts that help us do everything every day. We will learn the names of these parts and what they do for us.
Key Body Parts and Their Functions: Head (Etire): Explanation: This is the top part of your body. It is very important because it holds your brain, which helps you think and learn. Your face is on the front of your head. Example: "When Mummy or Daddy pats your head, they are showing you they are proud of you. We carry things on our heads, like a basket of mangoes." Eyes (Ani): Explanation: You have two eyes on your face. They are for seeing. They help you see colours, shapes, your friends, your teacher, and the beautiful world around you. Example: "You use your eyes to see the blackboard in class. You use your eyes to watch cartoons. You use your eyes to see the delicious jollof rice before you eat it." Nose (Ehwene): Explanation: Your nose is in the middle of your face. It is for smelling and breathing. It helps you smell good things and bad things. Example: "You use your nose to smell the sweet scent of a flower. You use your nose to smell mummy's cooking from the kitchen. It also tells you if something smells bad, like a choked gutter, so you can move away." Mouth (Ano): Explanation: Your mouth is below your nose. It has many jobs! You use it for eating, drinking, talking, and singing. Inside your mouth, you have your tongue for tasting and teeth for chewing. Example: "You use your mouth to say 'Good morning' to your teacher. You use it to eat your yam and stew. You use it to sing our national anthem." Ears (Aso): Explanation: You have two ears, one on each side of your head. They are for hearing. They help you listen to sounds like music, people talking, and birds singing. Example: "You use your ears to listen to the teacher's instructions. You use your ears to hear the church bell on Sunday morning. You use them to listen to your favourite songs." Hands (Nsa): Explanation: You have two hands at the end of your arms. You use them for touching, holding, carrying, clapping, and writing. Each hand has five fingers. Example: "You use your hands to hold your pencil to draw. You use your hands to wave 'hello' to your friends. You use your hands to eat your fufu (for those who use their hands)." Legs and Feet (Nan): Explanation: You have two legs, and at the bottom are your feet. They help you to stand, walk, run, jump, and kick. Example: "You use your legs and feet to walk to school. You use them to run and play during break time. You use your feet to play football."
