This lesson focuses on road safety, a critical life skill for our young learners in Ghana. Many of our children walk to school, to the market, or play near roads where cars, 'trotros', and 'okadas' (motorbikes) move quickly. Understanding basic safety rules from a young age can prevent accidents and help them grow into responsible citizens. This lesson uses games, songs, and role-playing to make learning about safety fun and memorable.
Core Idea: The road is for vehicles, and the pavement (or side of the road) is for people. We must be very careful when we need to cross the road.
Concept 1: What is a Road and Why is it Dangerous? Explanation: A road is a special path made for cars, lorries, buses (trotros), and motorbikes (okadas) to move from one place to another. Why it's dangerous: These vehicles move very fast. A driver might not see a small child. If a car hits someone, it can hurt them very badly. The road is not a playground. We should never run after a ball or play on the road. Ghanaian Context: "Think about the main road near our school. We see so many cars and trotros moving fast. That is why we must be extra careful."
Concept 2: The Golden Rules of Road Safety
We will learn three main rules to keep us safe.
