Lesson summary

This lesson is about learning to move our bodies in different ways. In our daily lives in Ghana, we are always moving! We walk to the market with our mothers, we run to play with our friends during break time, we jump over puddles when it rains, and we hop when we play games like 'ampe'. Learning to do these movements properly helps us to be strong, healthy, and safe. It helps us control our bodies so we don't fall and get hurt, and it makes playing our favourite games even more fun. Today, we will practice being experts at walking, running, jumping, and hopping.

Lesson notes

This lesson focuses on locomotor skills. These are movements that take our bodies from one place to another. We will learn four basic but very important ones today.

Concept 1: Walking Walking is how we move around most of the time. To walk well, we should: Stand up tall. Put one foot in front of the other. Swing our arms gently in the opposite way to our legs (when your right leg goes forward, your left arm swings forward). Keep our eyes looking where we are going. Contexts: We can walk in different ways: Slowly: Like a tortoise or when we are tired. Quickly (briskly): Like when you are late for school. Backwards: Taking careful steps behind you. Tiptoe: Walking quietly on the tips of your toes.

Concept 2: Running Running is like fast walking, but with a big difference: for a very short moment, both of your feet are in the air! To run well and safely, we should: Lean our body forward a little bit. Bend our arms at the elbow and pump them back and forth. Push off the ground with our feet. Most importantly: Look ahead to see where you are going so you don't bump into anything or anyone!

Concept 3: Jumping Jumping is a powerful movement where we push off the ground and fly in the air for a moment. For a proper jump, we must: Start: Stand with both feet together. Prepare: Bend your knees and swing your arms back. Take-off: Swing your arms forward and push off the ground hard with both feet at the same time. Land: Land on both feet at the same time. Bend your knees a little when you land to soften the impact, like a spring. Example: Imagine you are a frog trying to cross a small stream. You must jump from one side to the other. You wouldn't use one foot; you'd use two!
