This week, we will explore the exciting world of comparing and ordering numbers. This is a very important skill we use every day in Ghana. When we go to the market, we check who has more mangoes in their basket. When we share our snacks like "bofrot" with friends, we try to see if everyone has the same number. By learning to compare and order numbers, we can understand quantities better, make fair choices, and become very smart with numbers!
This topic is built on three main ideas: comparing groups of items, ordering numbers, and understanding the position of numbers.
Concept 1: Comparing Quantities (More, Less, Same As)
This is the first step. Before we use number symbols, we learn to compare by looking at physical groups of items. More: Means a larger quantity or a bigger amount. The group with 'more' has extra items when you pair them up. Less: Means a smaller quantity or a smaller amount. The group with 'less' has fewer items. Same As (or Equal To): Means the two groups have the exact same number of items. Nothing is left over when you pair them up.
