Lesson summary

This lesson explores the different ways people learn about agriculture. For Ghana to achieve food security and become an industrialised nation, we need more than just people farming with hoes and cutlasses. We need knowledge, skills, and new technologies. Understanding the various types of agricultural education helps us see how this knowledge is created, shared, and passed down from agricultural scientists in universities to farmers in our local communities. This knowledge is essential for anyone considering a career in the vast field of agriculture, from research to business, and for every citizen who depends on the food our farmers grow.

Lesson notes

What is Agricultural Education?

Agricultural Education is the process of teaching and learning the skills, knowledge, and principles of agriculture. It is not just about farming; it covers the entire chain from soil management and crop production to animal rearing, food processing, marketing, and agricultural economics. It is the system through which we train farmers, researchers, extension officers, and agri-business professionals.

There are three primary ways this education is delivered: Formal Agricultural Education Informal Agricultural Education Non-formal Agricultural Education

Let's break down each one.
