Welcome, learners! Today, we are moving beyond just hitting a volleyball and learning the "brain" of the game: player positioning and rotation. In Ghana, we love our team sports like football and netball. Volleyball is another exciting team sport that requires not just skill, but also strategy and coordination. Understanding where to be on the court and when to move is the key to turning a group of players into a winning team. This knowledge prevents confusion, ensures everyone participates, and makes the game more strategic and fun. These principles of teamwork, discipline, and understanding your role are valuable skills not just on the court, but in all areas of life.
This section breaks down the two most important strategic rules in volleyball: the court zones and the rotation system. A. The Volleyball Court and Its Zones
A standard volleyball court is a rectangle measuring 18 metres long and 9 metres wide. It is divided in the middle by a net. Each team's side (9m x 9m) is further divided into two main areas by the attack line (or 3-metre line): the front court and the back court.
For player positioning, each side of the court is divided into six (6) zones. These zones are numbered 1 to 6 in a specific counter-clockwise order, but the players rotate clockwise through them.
