Lesson summary

My dear students, today we are going to have a very important discussion that affects every single one of us, our families, and our communities. We often hear about people falling sick with diseases like "sugar disease" (diabetes) or "pressure" (hypertension). Many of these illnesses, which are becoming more common in Ghana, are not just due to bad luck or old age. They are strongly linked to the small decisions we make every day – what we eat, how much we move, and how we take care of our bodies. This lesson will empower you to understand this link and make choices that can lead to a long, healthy, and productive life.

Lesson notes

A. What Are Life Choices (Lifestyle)?

Life choices are the daily decisions and habits an individual makes that affect their health and well-being. These are often things we can control. They are not one-off decisions but patterns of behaviour over time.

Think of it like building a house. Each choice is a brick. Good choices (eating fruits, exercising) are strong bricks. Poor choices (eating too much fried food, smoking) are weak, cracked bricks. Over time, the type of bricks you use determines how strong your "house" (your body) will be. B. Major Categories of Life Choices and Their Impact on Diseases

We can group these choices into several key areas. Let's explore them one by one. Dietary Choices: "You Are What You Eat"
