Welcome, future engineers and technicians! In our workshops and industries today, from the Tema Port expansion to the fabrication shops in Suame Magazine, technology is changing how things are made. We are moving from purely manual work to using computers to control machines. This lesson introduces you to two powerful and precise machines: the CNC Drilling Machine and the CNC Grinding Machine. Understanding these machines is crucial because they represent the modern way of manufacturing – faster, more accurate, and more efficient. This knowledge prepares you for careers in modern engineering, manufacturing, and design, allowing you to create high-quality products right here in Ghana.

Part 1: What is CNC?

CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control. Computer: The machine is controlled by a dedicated computer or a microprocessor. Numerical: The computer is given instructions in the form of numbers and codes (letters and symbols). This special programming language is often called G-code. Control: The computer uses these numerical instructions to precisely control the movement of the machine's tools and parts.

Think of it like this: Instead of a human operator manually turning handles and pulling levers to guide a cutting tool, we write a program that tells the machine *exactly* where to move, how fast to go, and what to do. The CNC machine follows these instructions perfectly, every single time. This is the foundation of automation in manufacturing.
