Lesson summary

Welcome, future graphic designers, entrepreneurs, and communicators! In today's world, it's not just about what you say, but how you present it. Whether you are creating a notice for the school noticeboard, a flyer for your mother's catering business, a church harvest programme, or even a professional-looking assignment, the ability to combine text and images effectively is a vital skill. This is the power of Desktop Publishing (DTP). This lesson will equip you with the fundamental tools in common software like Microsoft Publisher or Microsoft Word to create visually appealing and well-organised documents that capture attention and communicate clearly.

Lesson notes

What is Desktop Publishing (DTP)?

Desktop Publishing is the use of computer software to create and design documents with a combination of text, graphics, and images for printing or digital display. Think of it as being your own graphic designer. While professional designers use advanced software like Adobe InDesign, we can achieve amazing results using tools we already have, like Microsoft Publisher and even Microsoft Word.

The main goal of DTP is to control the layout of a page—where text goes, where pictures are placed, and how everything looks together. The Five Essential DTP Tools

We will focus on five key tools available in the "Insert" tab of most productivity applications (like MS Word or Publisher). Inserting Pictures
