Lesson summary

Welcome, future engineers and technicians! Today, we are looking at a very important characteristic of transformers called Voltage Regulation. Think about the transformers you see in your communities, the big green or grey boxes on poles that belong to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). Their job is to provide a steady voltage to our homes and businesses. But does the voltage stay perfectly constant? No. It changes depending on how much electricity we are using. Voltage regulation tells us *how well* a transformer can maintain a constant voltage as the load changes.

Lesson notes

This section breaks down everything you need to know about voltage regulation. a) Definition of Voltage Regulation

In simple terms, voltage regulation is a measure of the change in the secondary terminal voltage of a transformer from a "no-load" condition (when nothing is connected to it) to a "full-load" condition (when it is supplying its maximum rated power).

It is usually expressed as a percentage of the full-load voltage.
