Lesson summary

This lesson focuses on revising and consolidating what we learned in Life Skills during Week

6. Specifically, we'll be revisiting the importance of hygiene and cleanliness in our daily lives and how these simple habits help us stay healthy and happy. In South Africa, where access to clean water and resources can sometimes be a challenge, understanding and practicing good hygiene is especially important to prevent the spread of germs and illnesses, allowing us to attend school and participate fully in our communities. We want to be healthy and strong so we can play with our friends, learn at school, and help our families.

Lesson notes

What is Hygiene? Hygiene means keeping ourselves clean and healthy. This includes washing our hands, brushing our teeth, bathing or showering regularly, and keeping our clothes clean. When we are clean, we feel good, and we are less likely to get sick. Why is Hygiene Important? Our hands touch many things throughout the day – desks, doorknobs, toys, and even the ground. These things can have germs on them. Germs are tiny creatures that can make us sick if they get into our bodies. Washing our hands with soap and water helps to remove these germs. Similarly, brushing our teeth removes food particles and bacteria that can cause cavities (holes in our teeth). Bathing or showering removes dirt and sweat from our bodies, keeping our skin healthy. The Importance of Washing Hands with Soap and Water: Washing your hands with just water can help, but it's not as effective as using soap. Soap helps to lift the germs from your skin so that the water can wash them away.
