Welcome, Grade 11 EGD learners! This week is crucial as we dedicate it to revision and examination preparation. EGD isn't just about drawing lines; it's a fundamental language for engineers, architects, designers, and technicians. In South Africa, with our booming infrastructure development and manufacturing sectors, EGD skills are in high demand. Mastering these skills opens doors to exciting careers and contributes directly to building a better future for our country. Whether you're designing a sustainable housing project, planning a new transport route, or developing innovative products, EGD provides the foundation.
This week’s focus areas cover core concepts tested in examinations. Let's delve into each one. 2.1 Orthographic Projection: Orthographic projection is the process of representing a 3D object using multiple 2D views. In South Africa, we use first-angle projection. Imagine placing the object in front of the projection planes.
Front View (FV): Shows the object as seen from the front.
Top View (TV): Shows the object as seen from above. Positioned above the Front View.
Left View (LV): Shows the object as seen from the left. Positioned to the right of the Front View.
Right View (RV): Shows the object as seen from the right. Positioned to the left of the Front View.
Important relationships: Width is shared between Front View and Top View. Height is shared between Front View and Side Views. Depth is shared between Top View and Side Views.
