This week is crucial for consolidating your understanding of the entire Grade 12 EGD syllabus. Examination preparation isn't just about memorising facts; it's about developing a deep understanding of the principles of technical drawing and design and applying them effectively. EGD skills are highly valuable in South Africa's growing infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. From designing sustainable housing solutions to contributing to innovative engineering projects, your EGD skills can open doors to meaningful career paths.
This week's revision will cover ALL topics from the Grade 12 syllabus.
However, a strong emphasis needs to be placed on integrating various concepts, as this is what often differentiates between a pass and a distinction.
Consider how the topics intersect: for example, how your knowledge of Loci influences understanding of cams, or how your understanding of Developments influences surface area calculations. 2.1 CAD (Computer-Aided Design): Importance: CAD proficiency is no longer optional but essential. In the South African context, industries like construction, manufacturing, and mining heavily rely on CAD for design and documentation.
Key Commands: Revisit and practice the following: Drawing commands: Line, Circle, Arc, Rectangle, Polygon, Spline, Polyline Modification commands: Erase, Copy, Mirror, Offset, Array, Move, Rotate, Scale, Trim, Extend, Fillet, Chamfer Annotation commands: Text (single-line and multi-line), Dimensioning (linear, aligned, angular, diameter, radius), Leader Layer management: Creating, naming, assigning colours and line weights to layers. Layer management is KEY to complex drawings! 3D Modelling basics: Extrude, Revolve, Sweep, Loft (understanding the principles and practicing simple shapes)
SANS Standards: Ensure all CAD drawings adhere to SANS standards regarding line types, text heights, dimensioning, and hatching.
