This week focuses on consolidating our learning in Natural Sciences and Technology in preparation for upcoming assessments. Revision is crucial because it helps you reinforce what you've already learned, identify any gaps in your understanding, and become more confident in your ability to apply your knowledge. In South Africa, a strong foundation in science and technology is vital for future careers in fields like medicine, engineering, agriculture, and environmental conservation – all areas critical for our country's development. Thinking critically and solving problems related to our natural world and everyday technologies are important skills for any South African citizen.
A. Force and Motion: Force: A push or a pull that can change the motion of an object. Forces are measured in Newtons (N). Examples of forces include gravity, friction, and applied force (like pushing a cart).
Motion: The act or process of moving. Motion can be described by speed, velocity, and acceleration.
Types of Forces: Gravity:* The force that pulls objects towards each other. Earth's gravity pulls everything towards its center. This is why things fall down, not up.
Friction:* A force that opposes motion when two surfaces rub against each other. Friction can be helpful (e.g., allowing us to walk) or harmful (e.g., causing wear and tear on machinery).
Applied Force:* A force that a person or object applies to another object (e.g., pushing a door).
