Lesson summary

This week, we're going to learn about ourselves and others. Understanding ourselves, our feelings, and how to treat others kindly is super important for growing up happy and successful in South Africa. When we know ourselves well, we can make good choices. When we understand and respect others, we can make friends and build strong communities, like our families and our schools. In a diverse country like South Africa, respecting each other’s differences is especially important. This week focuses on building a foundation for healthy relationships and self-awareness.

Lesson notes

This week, we're covering three key ideas: Feelings, Self-Esteem, and Kindness.

Feelings (Emotions): Everyone feels different emotions! Emotions are how we react to things that happen around us or inside us. Sometimes we feel happy, which might make us smile and want to play. Sometimes we feel sad, which might make us cry or feel quiet. Sometimes we feel angry, which might make us stomp our feet. Other emotions include scared, excited, and surprised. Why is it important to know about feelings? Knowing what we feel helps us understand ourselves. If we know we feel sad, we can tell someone and they can help us. If we know we feel angry, we can learn to calm down instead of hurting someone.
