Lesson summary

This week, we are revisiting and solidifying everything we learned in Life Skills during Week

5. This revision is incredibly important because it helps us remember what we've learned and use that knowledge in our everyday lives. It’s like practicing our soccer skills so we can play even better! We’ll focus on the key concepts and skills covered in Week 5, ensuring everyone understands them thoroughly. A strong foundation in these life skills will help you become confident, responsible, and respectful young South Africans. Think of it as building a strong base for a very tall and amazing building (that's you!).

Lesson notes

This week, we’re recapping four main Life Skills areas: Emotions, Hygiene, Cooperation & Play, Weather & Safety. a)

Emotions: Emotions are feelings we experience inside. They can be happy, sad, angry, scared, or many other things. It’s important to understand our emotions so we can manage them in a healthy way. Knowing what you feel allows you to express yourself and ask for help when you need it.

Happiness: Feeling happy is like sunshine in your heart! You might smile, laugh, and want to play. Think about a time you felt happy. Maybe it was when you got a new toy, played with your friends, or ate your favorite food.

Sadness: Feeling sad is okay too. It's like a rainy day. You might cry or feel quiet. Think about a time you felt sad. Maybe someone hurt your feelings or you missed someone.

Anger: Feeling angry is like a fire inside. You might shout or feel your face getting hot. It’s important to manage your anger. Taking deep breaths or talking to a trusted adult can help.

Fear: Feeling scared is like a shaky leaf on a tree. You might want to hide or run away. It's important to tell someone if you are scared.

Worked example

Imagine your friend takes your toy without asking. How might you feel? You might feel angry or sad. What can you do? You can tell your friend that it makes you sad when they take your toy without asking. You can also ask a teacher for help.

b)

Hygiene:

Hygiene is about keeping our bodies clean and healthy. This helps us stay strong and avoid getting sick.

Handwashing: Washing our hands with soap and water is very important. We should wash our hands before eating, after using the toilet, and after playing outside. Think of all the germs we pick up during the day! Soap helps to get rid of them. Rub your hands together for at least 20 seconds, like singing "Happy Birthday" twice.

Brushing Teeth: Brushing our teeth twice a day (morning and night) keeps our teeth healthy and strong. It removes food and germs that can cause cavities (holes in our teeth). Use a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
