Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask the class:
Can you find two objects that are the same shape but different colors?
Learner’s Role:
Respond orally and point to objects in the classroom

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body
Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher’s Role (Expanded & Detailed)
• Begin with a short revision of the previous lesson on combining color and shape words in French (e.g., un carré jaune, un cercle vert).
• Introduce how to compare objects using simple French descriptive structures. Use real or drawn objects and model phrases such as:
Ce cercle est rouge, ce cercle est bleu. (This circle is red, this circle is blue.)
Ce carré est grand, ce carré est petit. (This square is big, this square is small.)
• Clearly emphasize the structure: Ce [shape] est [color/size]
• Write example sentences on the board and have learners repeat after you. Break down each sentence to explain meaning word by word.
• Conduct guided group activities: learners receive two colored shapes and are asked to compare them using the modeled sentences.
• Support learners with pronunciation practice, encourage full sentence use rather than single words.
• Monitor and correct spelling errors during writing sessions. Use the board to demonstrate corrections with the class.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed)
• Repeat modeled comparison phrases aloud as a group and individually.
• Participate in “Show and Tell” style comparison using paper cut-outs or drawn shapes:
– “Ce triangle est vert, ce triangle est rouge.”
– “Ce rectangle est long, ce rectangle est court.”
• Work in small groups or pairs to observe and describe differences between two or more shapes.
• Complete a worksheet or in-book exercise where they compare two shapes and write sentences in French:
Ce cercle est rouge, ce cercle est jaune.
Ce carré est petit, ce carré est grand.
• Engage in a matching game where sentences must be matched with the correct shape illustrations.

Assessment Checks
• Observe and listen to learners as they describe differences between shapes. Take note of:
– Correct use of ce… est structure
– Use of shape and color vocabulary
– Proper pronunciation of color and shape words
• Ask learners to stand and describe two shapes using full sentences. For example:
– “Ce triangle est jaune, ce triangle est bleu.”
• Review written comparison sentences and check for accuracy in structure and spelling.

Peer Review
• Learners present their comparison sentences to their partners.
• Partners provide constructive feedback by listening and correcting mistakes in pronunciation or grammar.
• Use peer-editing during written work: students exchange notebooks and check each other’s spelling of French shape and color words.
• Encourage learners to use French-only correction phrases:
Très bien ! (Very good!)
Ce n’est pas bleu, c’est rouge. (It’s not blue, it’s red.)

Notes (Expanded & Detailed)
• Reinforce vocabulary using color cards and shape posters placed around the classroom.
• Include real-life comparison: “Look at the door and the window. Are they the same shape? What color are they?”
• Support learners who struggle with comparison structure by using sentence frames on the board:
Ce ____ est ____, ce ____ est ____.
• Encourage learners to observe and describe objects from their homes or environment using French vocabulary.

Assignment (Homework)
• Learners will:

  1. Draw two different objects (e.g., a red ball and a blue book).
  2. Label each object with its shape and color in French.
  3. Write a comparison sentence under the drawing, e.g.:
Ce cercle est rouge, ce rectangle est bleu.
  4. Practice saying the sentence aloud and prepare to present it to the class the next day.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Evaluation Method:
Exit slip/quiz: Describe one object comparing its shape and color
Follow-up Activity: Oral sharing in small groups
Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies:
Use visual and real-life examples for slow learners
Challenge advanced learners to compare three or more objects
