Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity:

  • Review all seven days orally.
  • Ask learners: “Can you spell the first day?”

Learner’s Role:

  • Participate in spelling aloud.
  • Listen to peers and teacher for guidance.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher’s Role (Expanded & Detailed)

  1. Model Correct Spelling of All Seven Days
    • Write each day of the week on the board clearly and legibly:
Lundi, Mardi, Mercredi, Jeudi, Vendredi, Samedi, Dimanche
    • Pronounce each day slowly while pointing to the letters.
    • Spell out each word letter-by-letter aloud, e.g., “L-U-N-D-I, Lundi.”
  2. Conduct Copying and Dictation Exercises
    • Ask learners to carefully copy each day into their notebooks, one at a time.
    • Once copied, dictate each day slowly and clearly for learners to write it again without looking at the board.
    • Repeat dictation multiple times for reinforcement.
  3. Organize Interactive Spelling Games
    • Introduce a scramble letter game: Provide learners with scrambled letters of a day’s name and have them arrange the letters correctly.
    • Use a fill-in-the-day game where learners complete the missing letters in a word on the board or worksheets.
    • Encourage learners to chant the spelling while playing these games to connect sounds with letters.
  4. Encourage Chanting and Spelling Simultaneously
    • Lead the class in chanting the spelling of each day together aloud, e.g., “L-U-N-D-I, Lundi!”
    • Repeat several times, increasing speed gradually while maintaining clarity.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed)

  1. Copy Each Day into Notebooks
    • Learners carefully copy each day word-by-word into their notebooks, focusing on neat handwriting.
    • Practice writing under teacher supervision to ensure letter formation.
  2. Participate in Spelling Games
    • In pairs or small groups, learners play the scramble letter and fill-in-the-day games.
    • Discuss and help each other spell the days correctly during the games.
  3. Recite All Days Aloud During Activities
    • While engaged in games and writing, learners recite the days aloud to reinforce both pronunciation and spelling.

Assessment Checks

  1. Check Accuracy in Written Spelling
    • Review learners’ notebooks to check for correct spelling of each day.
    • Provide immediate feedback or corrections if needed.
  2. Observe Participation in Games and Recitation
    • Monitor learners’ engagement and ability to spell aloud correctly during interactive activities.

Peer Review

  • Students pair up to review each other’s spelling written in notebooks.
  • Partners gently point out any spelling errors and help correct them.
  • Encourage positive, supportive feedback and collaboration.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed)

  • Use repetition of spelling and visual aids like letter cards or charts to reinforce memorization.
  • Hands-on activities like games and writing make learning engaging and help improve retention.
  • Ensure learners understand letter sounds match with spelling to strengthen phonetic awareness.

Assignment (Homework)

  • Write the seven days of the week in order in notebooks, focusing on neat and correct spelling.
  • Practice reciting the days and spelling them aloud at home, encouraging family members to listen and help.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes

Evaluation Method:

  • Exit slip: Write one day correctly.
  • Follow-up Activity: Recite all days in order with spelling practice.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies:

  • Extra visual aids and guided practice for slow learners.
  • Challenge advanced learners to recite days and ordinal numbers without help.
