Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity:
- Recap Janvier → Août.
- Ask: “What comes after Août?”

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher’s Role (Expanded & Detailed)
- Introduce Septembre, Octobre, Novembre, Décembre
- Write the months on the board: Septembre, Octobre, Novembre, Décembre.
- Pronounce each month slowly and clearly:
“Septembre” (sep-tahm-bruh), “Octobre” (ok-toh-bruh), “Novembre” (noh-vahm-bruh), “Décembre” (day-sahm-bruh).
- Focus on the nasal “-bre” ending sound and encourage learners to watch the mouth movements.
- Repeat each month several times, encouraging learners to imitate sounds carefully.
- Practice Pronunciation with Repetition
- Use call-and-response to reinforce pronunciation.
- Repeat the months as a group and individually.
- Use gestures, such as finger counting or pointing to a calendar, to help learners associate words with concepts.
- Show All Twelve Months on a Chart and Explain Sequence
- Display a chart with all twelve months in French:
Janvier, Février, Mars, Avril, Mai, Juin, Juillet, Août, Septembre, Octobre, Novembre, Décembre.
- Explain that these months make up one year: “Il y a douze mois dans une année.”
- Point to each month as you say it aloud with the class.
- Model Ordering Months with Students
- Write months randomly on the board or on cards.
- Invite learners to come and arrange the months in the correct order from January (Janvier) to December (Décembre).
- Recite the full sequence together once arranged.
