Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Activity: The teacher will ask the class:
• Can you count 1–7 in French?
• What number comes after sept?
Learner’s Role:
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher’s Role (Expanded & Detailed)
• Introduce the French numbers 8, 9, and 10: huit (8), neuf (9), dix (10). Pronounce each number clearly, highlighting the unique sounds, especially the silent ‘t’ in “huit” and “dix.”
• Model pronunciation by repeating each number several times slowly, encouraging learners to listen carefully and imitate the sounds.
• Lead the class in practicing counting from 1 to 10 in order, using a clear, rhythmic tone to make it easy to follow and memorize. Repeat several times.
• Use flashcards or number cards to conduct matching activities focusing on numerals 8, 9, and 10, helping learners associate the number symbols with their French names.
Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Detailed)
• Repeat each new number (huit, neuf, dix) aloud, both individually and as a group, to build confidence and correct pronunciation.
• Participate in matching games where learners pair numerals 8, 9, and 10 with their corresponding French names.
• Practice sequencing numbers 1 through 10 in the correct order by reciting aloud and arranging number cards in sequence.
Assessment Checks
• Observe learners for correct pronunciation of huit, neuf, and dix during repetition and activities. Provide immediate corrective feedback when needed.
• Monitor learners’ ability to count aloud from 1 to 10 in sequence during oral drills or individual responses.
Peer Review
• Encourage learners to work in pairs to help each other match numerals with number names, correcting pronunciation and sequence as they go.
• Allow learners to listen to and support one another during counting and matching exercises.
Notes (Expanded & Detailed)
• Use repetition and counting songs to reinforce learning, such as simple French counting rhymes or chants that include numbers 1–10.
• Encourage the use of finger counting or visual aids like objects (toys, beads) to help learners visualize quantities and link numbers to real-world items.
• Maintain a lively, positive atmosphere to keep learners engaged and motivated.
Assignment (Homework)
• Write the numbers 1 through 10 in French neatly in notebooks, paying attention to spelling.
• Practice counting aloud from 1 to 10 several times a day to build fluency and confidence.
• Optional: Find or collect groups of objects at home (like buttons or pencils) and count them in French to reinforce the connection between numbers and quantities.
