Activity:

  • Teacher greets: “Bonjour, class!” → “Bonjour, Madame/Monsieur!”
  • Ask learners: “How do you greet your teacher?”

  1. Introduction of Greetings with Titles
    • The teacher introduces formal greeting phrases that include respectful titles:
      • Bonjour Monsieur…
      • Bonsoir Madame…
      • Bonjour Madame…
    • Each phrase is written clearly on the board and repeated slowly and clearly.
    • The teacher uses appropriate gestures and tone to reinforce the formality.
  2. Explanation of Titles and Polite Usage
    • The teacher explains that:
      • Monsieur means Mr. – used to address a man politely.
      • Madame means Mrs./Ms. – used to address a woman politely.
    • Emphasize that these are used when talking to adults or people you respect, like:
      • Teachers
      • Parents
      • Principals
      • Community elders

    • The teacher demonstrates simple greetings with polite titles:

Assignment (Homework)

Task:
Write three different French greetings using either Monsieur or Madame. Use your own made-up names or names of real people you know.

Example format:

  1. Bonjour Monsieur Kollie.
  2. Bonsoir Madame Wleh.
  3. Bonjour Madame Johnson.

Learners will bring the assignment the next day and read one of their greetings aloud in class.
