Teacher’s Name:
Subject: General Science
Grade Level: Grade 1
Date: Week 32
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 32, Period 6
Topic: Care of the Body
Sub-topic: Taking Care of Ourselves

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate proper personal hygiene including bathing, brushing teeth, washing hands, combing hair, and trimming nails
  • Explain the importance of proper hand washing
  • Understand the need to respect and protect private parts

Previous Knowledge
Students already know:
Basic hygiene practices
Awareness of private parts

Instructional Materials
Pictures showing hygiene practices
Soap, water, toothbrush, comb, towel
Chart paper and markers

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter) Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks: How do you take care of your body every day? Students share their daily hygiene routine
B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Teacher demonstrates step-by-step hand washing with soap and water (wet hands → apply soap → rub palms, back of hands, between fingers → rinse → dry). Pupils practice in groups.
  • Teacher shows how to brush teeth properly (up-down and circular motion, at least twice daily). Pupils demonstrate with toothbrushes (or use finger motions if toothbrushes not available).
  • Pupils practice bathing motions (pretend to wash face, arms, and legs) as the teacher explains importance.
  • Teacher models combing hair neatly and trimming nails with nail clippers. Pupils discuss what happens if nails are too long or hair is not kept clean.
  • Teacher explains how to protect private parts: keeping them covered, saying “NO” if someone tries to touch them, and reporting to a trusted adult.
  • Pupils role-play simple scenarios (e.g., washing before eating, saying “NO” to unsafe touch).

Assessment Checks:

  • Teacher observes pupils as they demonstrate washing hands, brushing teeth, or combing hair to check correct practice.
  • Oral questions:
    • “Why should we wash our hands before eating?”
    • “What happens if we don’t brush our teeth?”
    • “What should you do if someone tries to touch your private parts?”
  • Peer checks: Pupils watch each other’s demonstrations and clap for correct steps.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Cleanliness keeps the body healthy and prevents diseases. Germs (tiny living things) live on dirty hands, nails, and teeth, but can be removed by washing.
  • Hand washing before eating, after using the toilet, and after playing removes germs that cause sickness like diarrhea and flu.
  • Brushing teeth in the morning and before bed prevents bad breath and tooth decay.
  • Bathing daily removes dirt, sweat, and germs from the skin.
  • Combing hair keeps it neat and free from lice.
  • Trimming nails prevents germs from hiding under long nails.
  • Private parts are special and should be protected. Nobody should touch them except parents or doctors for care. Respecting private parts ensures safety, protection, and dignity.

Extra Examples & Practical Links:

  • Show soap, toothbrush, towel, and nail cutter in class and ask: “Which body part do we use this for?”
  • Pupils sing a short hand-washing song (e.g., “This is the way we wash our hands…”) while practicing.
  • Simple drawing activity: Pupils draw one hygiene activity they do daily at home.
  • Home assignment: Pupils practice hand washing before meals and tell parents to watch them. Parents give feedback to the teacher.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment) Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Recap daily hygiene practices and safety of private parts

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Students explain one hygiene practice and why private parts should be protected
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback

Assignment (Expanded): Practice proper hygiene at home for a week and report back

Follow-up Activity: Demonstrate correct hand washing in class

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Provide step-by-step visual instructions for hygiene practices
Pair students to practice hygiene routines together
