Teacher’s Name:
Subject: Mathematics
Grade Level: Grade 1
Date: Week 27
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 27, Period 5
Topic: Measurement
Sub-topic: Measuring Length, Weight, and Capacity with Standard Units

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Measure length using centimetres and metres
Measure weight using kilograms
Measure capacity using litres

Previous Knowledge
Students already know how to estimate measurement using non-standard units.

Instructional Materials
Rulers, tape lines, weighing scale, litre containers

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
The teacher shows a ruler and asks: “What is this used for?” Learners respond.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Length: measured using rulers (cm) and tape (m).
Weight: measured using a scale in kilograms (kg).
Capacity: measured using litres (L).
Examples:
Measure a textbook in cm.
Measure the classroom length using metres.
Measure a learner’s weight using a scale.
Measure classroom water bucket in litres.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Learners use rulers to measure their copybooks.
They use tape to measure the classroom floor.
They weigh their bags using a scale.
They measure water with litre bottles.

Assessment Checks:
What unit do we use to measure length?
What unit do we use to measure weight?
What unit do we use to measure capacity?

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Standard units are used worldwide for measurement. Length is measured in cm and m, weight in kg, and capacity in L.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Standard units help us to measure length, weight, and capacity accurately.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip: Match ruler, scale, and litre bottle with what they measure.

Assignment (Expanded):
Measure the length of your shoe using a ruler.

Follow-up Activity:
Bring a ruler or tape from home.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Allow weaker learners to measure smaller objects. Use group support for activities.
