Instructional Materials
Mathematics textbook for Grade 1, number charts, flashcards, counters, bottle tops, sticks, and picture cards.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher sings a counting rhyme with the class (e.g., “One, Two, Buckle My Shoe”) while learners clap their hands.
Teacher shows flashcards of numbers 1–20 and asks learners to read them aloud.
Quick oral exercise: learners count classroom objects like chairs or books up to 20 to refresh memory.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Teacher explains that numbers continue after 20 up to 40. A number is a way to represent how many things we have.
Teacher demonstrates counting objects like bottle tops, sticks, or beans up to 40 while learners count along.
Teacher writes numbers 21–40 on the board and reads them aloud, then guides students to repeat after him/her.
Teacher explains how to write numbers in words:
21 → twenty-one, 22 → twenty-two, 23 → twenty-three, etc.
Teacher matches picture cards with the correct numbers written on the board.

Examples:
Count 15 bottle tops and write it as 15 (fifteen).
Count 28 pencils and write it as 28 (twenty-eight).
Read the number 34 as “thirty-four.”

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Learners count different classroom objects up to 40.
Learners read numbers 21–40 aloud from the chart.
Learners practice writing numbers 21–40 in figures and words in their notebooks.
Learners match groups of objects with their corresponding number flashcards.

Assessment Checks:
How many books are on this table?
Write the number that comes after 29.
What is 36 in words?

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Numbers can be written in figures (25) and words (twenty-five).
Counting numbers up to 40 means going step by step without skipping.
Matching numbers with objects helps us know quantity.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Teacher reviews counting up to 40, reading numbers in figures and words, and matching numbers with objects.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Write the numbers that come after 27, 32, and 39. Write 24 in words. Count 10 pencils and show the number in figures.
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded):
Write numbers 21–40 in your exercise book in figures and words.

Follow-up Activity:
At home, learners count objects such as cups, spoons, or fruits up to 40 and record their counts.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Teacher groups learners by ability: weaker learners get smaller sets to count, while stronger learners count larger sets and practice writing in words.
