Subject: Mathematics
Grade Level: Grade 1
Date: Week 32
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 32, Period 6
Topic: Plane Shapes
Sub-topic: Identifying and Exploring Triangles

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. Define a triangle.
  2. Identify features of a triangle (3 sides, 3 corners).
  3. Recognize triangles in real life.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know that plane shapes have sides and corners.

Instructional Materials
Textbook, ruler, cutouts of triangles, classroom objects with triangle shapes.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher shows learners the roof of a house (picture) and a slice of bread. Learners are asked to describe the shape. Teacher introduces the triangle.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
A triangle is a plane shape with 3 sides and 3 corners. It can look different: some have all sides equal, some have two sides equal, and some have all sides different. Teacher draws several triangles on the board, labeling sides and corners. Examples:
Roof of house – triangle
Traffic sign – triangle
Slice of pizza – triangle

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Draw a triangle on their exercise books using rulers. Trace objects like triangular rulers. Group work: count the sides and corners of different triangles.

Assessment Checks:
How many sides does a triangle have? How many corners? Give one real-life example of a triangle.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Triangles always have 3 sides and 3 corners. They can be equilateral (all sides equal), isosceles (two sides equal), or scalene (no sides equal). Triangles are very strong shapes used in building roofs and bridges.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Teacher reviews triangle features with class. Learners mention at least one triangle-shaped object.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Draw one triangle and label the corners.

Assignment (Expanded):
Find 3 objects at home that are shaped like triangles.

Follow-up Activity:
Next lesson will compare rectangles and circles.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Struggling learners get more tracing activities. Advanced learners explore the types of triangles.
