Grade Level: Grade 1
Date: Week 33
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 33, Period 6
Topic: Plane Shapes
Sub-topic: Understanding Rectangles and Circles

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. Define rectangles and circles.
  2. Identify their features.
  3. Recognize rectangles and circles in real life.

Previous Knowledge
Students already know about triangles.

Instructional Materials
Cutouts of rectangles and circles, paper, chalkboard drawings, objects like books, balls, clocks.

Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher shows a book and a ball. Learners are asked to describe their shapes. Teacher introduces rectangle and circle.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes
Rectangle: 4 sides, opposite sides equal, 4 corners.
Circle: round shape, no sides, no corners.
Examples of rectangles: door, blackboard, book.
Examples of circles: wheel, clock, plate.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):
Learners match shape cutouts to objects. They trace and color circles and rectangles. They group objects found in class into rectangle and circle categories.

Assessment Checks:
How many sides does a rectangle have? Does a circle have corners?

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):
Rectangles are plane shapes with 4 sides and 4 corners. Opposite sides are equal. Circles are round and have no sides or corners. Both are common in real life.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Teacher reviews the features of circles and rectangles.

Evaluation Method (Expanded):
Exit slip/quiz: Draw one rectangle and one circle.

Assignment (Expanded):
Find 2 rectangle-shaped and 2 circle-shaped objects at home.

Follow-up Activity:
Next lesson will teach learners how to draw shapes.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Learners who need support trace given shapes. Advanced learners measure rectangle sides.
