Subject: Physical Education
Grade Level: Grade 1
Date: Week 27
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 27, Period 5
Topic: Long-Jump Activity
Sub-topic: Individual and Partner Long-Jump Skills

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Perform standing long jumps safely
Measure jumps and encourage partners in team relays

Previous Knowledge
Students already know:
Jumping and landing skills from previous activities

Instructional Materials
Measuring tape, cones, mats, open space

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Lead learners in stretching legs and ankles
Ask learners why landing safely is important when jumping

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

Teacher’s Input (Explanations, Definitions & Demonstrations):

  1. Definition of Long Jump:
    • Long jump is when a person jumps forward as far as possible from a standing position.
    • It helps to build strength, balance, coordination, and confidence.
  2. Demonstration of Individual Jumps:
    • Standing Long Jump: Learners stand with feet shoulder-width apart, bend knees, swing arms backward, and jump forward with both feet together.
    • Correct Landing: Land on both feet together with knees bent and arms stretched forward for balance.
    • Examples:
      • Practice swinging arms without jumping.
      • Practice soft landings by jumping in place before attempting forward jumps.
  1. Measuring Jump Distance:
    • Use a rope, chalk, or stick to mark the start line.
    • After each jump, mark where the learner’s heel lands.
    • Measure with steps or rulers (simple for children).
    • Example: “Let’s see who can jump the length of 3 footsteps.”
  2. Demonstration of Partner Activities:
    • Team Jump Relay: Learners take turns jumping, one after another, as a relay team.
    • Partner Encouragement: One learner jumps while the other cheers, claps, or counts distance. Then they switch roles.
    • Example: Group challenge—team tries to cover the longest combined distance.
  3. Safety and Technique:
    • Always bend knees before and after the jump.
    • Keep arms swinging to help with balance and forward movement.
    • Make sure the landing area is soft, clear, and safe.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Perform individual standing long jumps one by one.
  • Practice correct landing posture with bent knees.
  • Measure distances of their jumps with teacher’s guidance.
  • Pair up for partner relay jumps, cheering each other on.
  • Participate in a “Jump & Cheer” activity where one jumps and the rest clap for encouragement.

Assessment Checks (Expanded):

  • Teacher observes:
    • Are learners bending knees and swinging arms before jumping?
    • Are they landing safely on both feet with knees bent?
    • Do they encourage partners during relay and pair activities?
  • Oral Questions:
    • “Why do we bend our knees when landing?”
    • “What part of the body helps us swing and jump farther?”
    • “How can you encourage your friend during a jump?”

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Safety First: Ensure there is enough space and soft ground or mats for landing.
  • Encouragement: Praise effort, not just distance. Focus on fun and safe participation.
  • Step-by-Step: Begin with short jumps before moving to full long jumps.
  • Teamwork: Highlight the importance of cheering, supporting, and turn-taking in partner activities.
  • Inclusiveness: Every learner’s jump is celebrated, no matter the distance.

Extra Practical Assignments:

  1. At School/Home: Learners practice jumping forward from a line (3 tries daily) and record which was their farthest jump.
  2. Drawing Activity: Learners draw themselves jumping forward with arms swinging.
  3. Class Challenge: Create a “Jump Wall of Fame” where each learner’s best distance (measured in footsteps) is recorded and celebrated.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Review long-jump skills and importance of safe landing
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Perform one jump correctly and explain safe landing
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback
Assignment (Expanded):
Practice long jumps at home with a safe space
Follow-up Activity:
Observe a friend performing long jump and provide tips

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Provide shorter jumps for beginners
Use mats to cushion landings
