Teacher’s Name:
Subject: Physical Education
Grade Level: Grade 1
Date: Week 32
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes
Week & Period: Week 32, Period 6
Topic: Principles of First Aid
Sub-topic: First Aid Skills & Simple Demonstrations

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
Perform basic first aid actions for minor cuts, bruises, and bumps
Demonstrate correct use of simple first aid materials

Previous Knowledge
Students already know:
First aid introduction, safety rules, and minor injury awareness

Instructional Materials
First aid kit, bandages, cotton wool, antiseptic, pictures

Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Ask learners what they should do if a friend gets a small cut
Discuss why first aid is important before medical help arrives

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)

Time: 25–30 minutes

Step 1: Demonstration – Cleaning and Dressing a Minor Cut

  • Teacher explains: “When someone has a small cut, we must clean it so germs do not enter and make it worse.”
  • Demonstrates the steps slowly, showing each material:
  1. Wash your hands with soap and water.
  2. Clean the cut gently with clean water or a wet cotton.
  3. Pat the cut dry with a clean cloth.
  4. Place cotton or plaster over the cut.
  • Teacher emphasizes: “Always use clean things, never dirty cloths.”
  • Example: If a child falls and cuts their knee while playing, you clean it gently and cover it.

Step 2: Demonstration – Applying a Bandage and Stopping Bleeding

  • Teacher shows a small pretend wound (on a doll, chart, or student’s arm with marker).
  • Demonstrates:
    • Put a clean cloth or cotton on the wound.
    • Press gently but firmly to stop the bleeding.
    • Wrap the bandage around, not too tight, not too loose.
  • Teacher explains: “We press to stop the bleeding, and the bandage keeps it covered and safe.”
  • Example: If someone cuts their finger with paper, you cover it with cotton and then bandage it.

Step 3: Explaining What to Do if Someone Feels Dizzy or Has a Bump

  • Teacher explains in very simple words:
    • If someone feels dizzy, let them sit down quietly and call for help.
    • If someone bumps their head, put a clean, cold cloth on the bump.
    • Never shake the person or run away laughing.
  • Examples:
    • A child runs too fast, bumps their head on a desk → help them sit down, call the teacher, and place a cool cloth.
    • A learner complains of dizziness → tell them to sit and relax while an adult is called.

Step 4: Learners’ Activities (Expanded & Practical)

  • Pretend Cut Practice: Pupils work in pairs using cotton and strips of cloth/bandage to dress a pretend cut drawn on paper or doll.
  • Role-Play: Groups act out helping a friend who fell and got a bump on the head—one calls for help, one stays calm, one uses a cloth.
  • Bandage Practice: Learners practice wrapping a bandage around a friend’s arm, ensuring it is not too tight.
  • Discussion Game: Teacher asks situations (“Your friend is dizzy, what do you do?”) and learners respond with correct actions.

Step 5: Assessment Checks (Expanded)

  • Teacher observes how learners handle cotton and bandages (checking for cleanliness and correct steps).
  • Ask learners individually:
  1. “What is the first thing you do before touching a wound?”
  2. “Why do we press a cloth on a cut?”
  3. “What do you do if a friend feels dizzy?”
  • Learners explain in their own words one First Aid action they practiced.

Step 6: Notes (Expanded & Detailed)

  • Hygiene is very important – always wash hands and use clean things.
  • Calmness is key – never panic, act slowly and carefully.
  • Safety first – do not try dangerous things, always call for adult help.
  • Remind: “We are practicing with pretend cuts, not real ones, so no one gets hurt.”

Extra Assignment (to reinforce learning):

  • Draw a picture of someone putting a bandage on a cut.
  • Ask parents: “What should I do if I bump my head at home?” and report in class.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Review first aid actions and correct material use
Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Demonstrate one first aid skill correctly
Teacher will collect slips and provide oral feedback
Assignment (Expanded):
Practice showing a first aid action to a family member
Follow-up Activity:
Identify items in a home first aid kit and explain their use

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Provide simplified materials for learners with limited skills
Use peer demonstration for support
