Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Ask students: What happens if rules are not followed? Discuss consequences

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Explanations:

  • Basic Civics: Learning how to be a good citizen by following rules, respecting authority, and obeying laws.
  • Examples in school: Standing in line, raising hands to speak, keeping the classroom clean.
  • Examples in the community: Listening to police officers, crossing the road safely, obeying traffic lights.
  • Importance of Laws: Laws help keep people safe, protect property, and ensure peace and fairness.
  • Demonstration: Teacher tells a story about a child who follows school rules vs. one who does not. Discuss what happens in each case.

Practical Activity:

  1. Learners role-play following school rules: walking in line, sharing materials, obeying instructions.
  2. Discuss community rules and how they keep everyone safe.
  3. Share stories from home where obeying rules helped someone or prevented a problem.
  4. Create a class “Civic Rules Poster” listing rules to follow at home, school, and community.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Practice role-playing scenarios with peers.
  • Identify examples of rules they follow at home and school.
  • Work in groups to make posters illustrating laws and rules.
  • Explain why obeying rules is important.

Assessment Checks:

  • Observe participation in role-plays and group discussions.
  • Ask oral questions:
    • “What is a law?”
    • “Name one rule you follow at school.”
    • “Why should we obey rules at home and in the community?”
  • Check class posters for correct representation of rules.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Basic civics teaches responsibility, respect, and safety.
  • Role-playing and storytelling help learners see the effects of following or breaking rules.
  • Understanding civic duties builds obedience, teamwork, and awareness of community responsibilities.
  • Visual reminders like posters reinforce daily practice of good citizenship.

Example Questions for Learners:

  1. “Give one rule you follow at school.”
  2. “Why is it important to obey the law?”
  3. “Tell a story about someone following rules at home.”

Assignment:

  • Draw or write three rules they follow at home and school.
  • Practice explaining why each rule is important to a family member.
  • Role-play at home a scenario where they follow a rule and explain the outcome.
