A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks: “What do we use to cook food? What does Nigeria sell to other countries?”

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Definition of Natural Resources:

  • Natural resources are gifts of nature that we use for daily life.
  • Examples: water, soil, coal, crude oil, sunlight, forests, minerals, cocoa, gold.

Types of Natural Resources:

  1. Energy Resources:
    • Used to produce light, heat, and power.
    • Examples: coal, crude oil, gas, sunlight, water (hydropower).
  2. Revenue Resources:
    • Sold to earn money for the country.
    • Examples: crude oil, cocoa, gold, timber, minerals.

Demonstration:

  • Teacher shows pictures of different natural resources and explains their uses.
  • Discuss how some resources give energy and others give income.

Practical Activity:

  1. Learners are given pictures of natural resources.
  2. Students group the pictures into “Energy Resources” and “Revenue Resources.”
  3. Discuss why it is important to use resources wisely and avoid wasting them.

  • Name natural resources they see around their homes or communities.
  • Classify each as either an energy resource or a revenue resource.
  • Discuss how people depend on resources for cooking, electricity, money, and trade.
  • Draw a picture showing an energy resource and a revenue resource.

  • Ask learners, “Name one resource that brings money to Nigeria.”
  • Observe learners during grouping activity and discussion to ensure understanding.
