Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher displays a leaf and asks: “What is this? Where does it grow?” Learners respond.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Plants:

  • Plants provide food (fruits, vegetables, grains).
  • Plants give medicine (herbs and leaves used to treat sickness).
  • Plants produce oxygen, which we need to breathe.
  • Plants also provide wood for building and making furniture.

Rivers:

  • Rivers provide water for drinking, cooking, and farming.
  • Rivers are homes to fish and other aquatic animals.
  • Rivers help with irrigation to grow crops.

Mountains:

  • Mountains provide fresh air and a cool environment.
  • Mountains are homes for some animals.
  • Mountains help in rainfall formation and water flow to rivers.

Demonstration:

  • Teacher uses charts, pictures, or real objects to show examples of plants, rivers, and mountains.
  • Discuss each feature’s importance for humans, animals, and the environment.

Practical Activity:

  1. Learners are given pictures of plants, rivers, and mountains.
  2. Students group the pictures into the correct category: plants, rivers, or mountains.
  3. Discuss the uses of each group and why they are important.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Identify plants, rivers, and mountains they see near their homes or community.
  • Name ways plants, rivers, and mountains help people and animals.
  • Share experiences, like visiting a river or seeing a mountain.
  • Draw a simple picture showing a plant, a river, and a mountain with labels.

Assessment Checks:

  • Ask learners, “Why do we need rivers?”
  • Ask learners, “What can we get from plants?”
  • Observe participation in grouping and drawing activities.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Plants provide food, medicine, wood, and oxygen.
  • Rivers provide water for daily use, farming, and support fish and other animals.
  • Mountains contribute to rainfall, provide habitats, and produce fresh air.
  • Understanding these features helps learners appreciate and protect nature.
  • Encourage learners to observe plants, rivers, and mountains during outings or at home.

Example Questions for Learners:

  1. “Name one thing we get from plants.”
  2. “Why are rivers important to humans and animals?”
  3. “What do mountains give us?”

Assignment:

  • Draw and label one plant, one river, and one mountain.
  • Write one sentence about how each of them helps people or animals.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Plants, rivers, and mountains are important parts of our environment.

Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Learners name one use of plants, one use of rivers, and one fact about mountains.

Assignment (Expanded)
Learners draw a plant and a river and write one use for each.

Follow-up Activity
Prepare learners for Week 15: Human Influence on the Environment.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Pair weaker learners with stronger ones for group tasks. Provide real objects (leaves, water) for tactile learning.
