Lesson Development – ABC Model
A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Teacher asks: “What happens if a child touches a hot iron or a naked wire?” Students respond.

B – Building Knowledge (Main Lesson Body)
Time: 25–30 minutes

Definition of Safety:
Safety means being free from harm or danger. It helps us stay healthy and avoid accidents at home, school, and in the community.

Safety Rules at Home:

  • Don’t play with fire (matches, lighters).
  • Don’t touch hot objects like stoves or pots.
  • Don’t run on wet floors to avoid slipping.
  • Obey parents and adult instructions.

Safety Rules at School:

  • Don’t push or shove others.
  • Don’t run in corridors or stairways.
  • Follow teachers’ instructions carefully.
  • Report unsafe situations to adults.

Safe Use of Electricity and Gadgets:

  • Don’t touch sockets with wet hands.
  • Don’t put objects inside sockets.
  • Always ask an adult before using electrical appliances or gadgets.
  • Be careful with cords and plugs to prevent accidents.

Practical Activity:

  1. Teacher demonstrates safe vs. unsafe practices using toy appliances and classroom scenarios (e.g., pretending to touch a socket or running on a wet floor).
  2. Learners role-play safe practices: walking carefully, avoiding sockets, reporting unsafe acts, and following rules.
  3. Class discusses what could happen if safety rules are ignored and how to prevent accidents.

Learners’ Activities (Expanded):

  • Practice walking carefully on wet floors.
  • Role-play refusing to touch electrical sockets or appliances without permission.
  • Identify unsafe actions in classroom pictures and suggest safer alternatives.
  • Discuss with peers how following rules keeps everyone safe.
  • Draw a picture showing safe practices at home or school.

Assessment Checks:

  • Ask learners to state two safety rules.
  • Ask learners to mention one way to use electricity safely.
  • Observe learners during role-play to ensure correct understanding of safety behaviors.

Notes (Expanded & Detailed):

  • Safety protects us from harm and accidents.
  • Following safety rules at home and school prevents injuries and keeps everyone healthy.
  • Electricity is useful for many tasks but can be dangerous if misused.
  • Reinforce that asking adults for guidance and following instructions is a key part of staying safe.
  • Encourage learners to share what they learned about safety with their families.

Example Questions for Learners:

  1. “Name two safety rules you follow at home.”
  2. “What should you do before using an electrical appliance?”
  3. “Why is it dangerous to run on wet floors?”

Assignment:

  • Draw a picture showing safe behavior at home or school.
  • Write one sentence about a safety rule you will always follow.

C – Consolidation (Conclusion & Assessment)
Time: 5–10 minutes
Summary: Safety rules at home and school keep us healthy and prevent accidents.

Evaluation Method (Expanded)
Exit slip/quiz: Students draw one safety practice at home or school. Teacher collects slips and provides oral feedback.

Assignment (Expanded)
Students will write or tell one way they stayed safe at home during the week.

Follow-up Activity
Next lesson will focus on direction and mapping.

Differentiation / Inclusive Strategies
Learners who cannot write will be allowed to explain orally. Visual learners use pictures for guidance.
