Starter Questions:
- Have you ever seen an advert that made you laugh or shout "Wow!"? What was special about it?
- Can you think of words we use when we're surprised, excited, or scared?
Think-Pair-Share:
- Think: Write down 3 exclamatory words you might say in surprise.
- Pair: Compare words with a partner.
- Share: List and discuss how they’re used in everyday speech.
B – Building Knowledge (Core Content)
- Definition of Interjections:
- Words or short phrases that express emotions.
- Often followed by an exclamation mark.
- Examples: Wow! Oh no! Yikes! Ouch! Hey! Bravo! Hurray!
- Types of Emotions Expressed:
- Surprise: Wow! Oh!
- Pain: Ouch! Ow!
- Joy: Hurray! Yay!
- Anger or frustration: Ugh! Grr!
- Using Interjections in Sentences:
- Ouch! That hurt.
- Hurray! We won the match.
- Wow, this food is amazing!
- Persuasive Writing: Advertisement
- Goal: to convince the audience to buy or do something.
- Key Elements:
- Headline or Attention grabber
- Description of product/service
- Emotional appeal (often using interjections)
- Call to action
- Grammar Integration:
- Students are to use at least:
- 2 Prepositional phrases
- 2 Coordinating/Correlative Conjunctions
- 1 Conjunctive Adverb
- 2 Interjections in their ad copy
Sample Advertisement Example:
“Wow! Are you tired of dry skin? Try GlowShea Cream – packed with shea butter and aloe vera for smooth, glowing skin. Not only does it moisturize, but also it keeps your skin protected all day. Therefore, don’t wait! Visit any store near your school today! Hurray!”
C – Consolidation (Application and Reflection)
Class Activities:
- Interjection Charades: Learners act out an emotion while classmates guess the interjection.
- Grammar Sort: Group activity sorting words into prepositions, conjunctions, conjunctive adverbs, and interjections.
- Advertisement Drafting: Students create their own product and write a persuasive advertisement.

- Write a one-paragraph advertisement on any of the following: soap, biscuit, exercise routine, or mobile app.
- Your ad must include:
