Starter Questions:

  • What does “give up” mean? Is it the same as “give”?
  • What is the function of a prepositional phrase?

B – Building Knowledge (Core Content):

  1. Phrasal Verbs: Verb + Preposition/Adverb
    • Ran across, broke down, get away
  2. Prepositional Phrases: Preposition + Noun/Pronoun
    • Under the table, beside the wall

Examples:

  • I ran into my teacher yesterday.
  • She sat by the fire.

C – Consolidation (Application and Reflection):
Activities:

  • Match phrasal verbs with their meanings.
  • Replace phrasal verbs in sentences with more formal alternatives.

Assignment:

  • Use 5 phrasal verbs and 5 prepositional phrases in your own sentences.
  • Compose a short paragraph using both.
