Lesson Development – ABC Model

A – Anticipation (Warm-up / Starter)

Activity:

  • Show images of rapidly growing urban centers.

  • Define Urbanization: The process by which more people live in urban areas than rural areas.
  • Explain Causes of Urbanization:
    • Rural-to-urban migration
    • Industrialization and job opportunities
    • Better education and health facilities
    • Government policies concentrating development in cities
  • Discuss Problems of Urbanization:
    • Overcrowding and slums
    • Traffic congestion
    • Pollution and waste management issues
    • Inadequate housing and social services
  • Suggest Solutions:
    • Planned urban development
    • Creation of satellite towns
    • Improved rural infrastructure to reduce migration pressure
    • Environmental management policies
  • Discuss Functions of Rural and Urban Settlements:
    • Rural: Agriculture, forestry, fishing
    • Urban: Commercial, administrative, industrial, residential
  • Discuss Reasons for Patterns of Settlement:
    • Physical features (rivers, hills, fertile soil)
    • Economic activities (trade, industry)
    • Historical and cultural factors
