Purpose: Activate prior knowledge and spark curiosity.

  • Start with probing questions:
    • “What risks would you take to infiltrate a criminal organization?”
    • “How do you decide whom to trust when everyone around you might be an enemy?”
  • Read aloud the excerpt where Morales meets El Fantasma and learns about the money laundering operation.
  • Encourage students to predict how Morales will handle betrayal and escalating danger.
