  1. P – Probe (5–10 min)

Purpose: Activate prior knowledge and spark curiosity.

  • Begin with a recap of Morales’ previous victories and the fragile peace in Ciudad Sombra.
  • Ask students to predict:
    • Who could be behind the resurgence of criminal activity?
    • How might Morales and his team handle betrayal and deception within their network?

Teacher’s Role: Facilitate discussion and encourage predictions to engage students.

  1. E – Explore (15–20 min)

Purpose: Engage actively with the text.

  • Students read or listen to excerpts from Chapters 19–20.
  • Focus on:
    • Emergence of La Sombra Oscura as a new threat
    • Investigation challenges including deception and betrayal
    • Morales’ strategic planning and the looming showdown

Methods:

  • Group reading and discussion: analyze suspense, tension, and moral dilemmas.
  • Role-play: Morales confronting La Sombra Oscura or handling the informant’s betrayal.
  • Annotation: highlight instances of strategy, ethical decision-making, and leadership.

  1. A – Analyze & Question (15–20 min)

Purpose: Develop critical thinking and literary analysis skills.

  • Higher-order questions:
    • What makes La Sombra Oscura a more dangerous adversary than previous villains?
    • How does betrayal affect Morales’ strategies and team morale?
    • In what ways does the author create suspense and tension in these chapters?
    • How do Morales’ leadership qualities guide his team through uncertainty?

Mini Analytical Tasks:

  • Map La Sombra Oscura’s network and Morales’ counter-strategies.
  • Identify techniques used to heighten suspense (foreshadowing, pacing, dialogue).
  • Discuss themes of resilience, loyalty, and the ongoing struggle between justice and corruption.

  1. R – Reflect & Relate (10–15 min)

Purpose: Connect literature to personal, social, or civic contexts.

  • Students reflect in writing or group discussion:
    • “Have you ever faced a situation where trust was broken, and how did you respond?”
    • “How can communities stay vigilant against emerging threats in society?”

Creative Response Options:

  • Write a diary entry from Morales’ perspective as he prepares to confront La Sombra Oscura.
  • Create a timeline of the resurgence of criminal activity and Morales’ investigation steps.

  1. L – Link & Extend (5–10 min)

Purpose: Consolidate learning and encourage further inquiry.

  • Summarize key points: emergence of a new threat, dealing with betrayal, investigative strategy, and leadership under pressure.
  • Assign extension activities:
    • Compose a newspaper report covering Morales’ efforts to thwart La Sombra Oscura.
    • Prepare a presentation on leadership and ethical decision-making in crisis situations.
    • Compare Morales’ strategies against previous adversaries and analyze their effectiveness.

Assessment & Feedback

  • Formative: Observation during discussion, role-play, annotation, and reflections.
  • Summative: Short essays, comprehension questions, and creative responses.
  • Peer & self-assessment encouraged.
