Topic: Components of Physical Fitness (Part 1)
Subtopics:
a. Definition of Components of Fitness
b. Health-Related Components (Part 1)

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:

  1. Define components of physical fitness.
  2. Identify health-related fitness components.
  3. Explain cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength.
  4. Participate in simple fitness activities.

Previous Knowledge:

Learners can define physical fitness and understand its general importance.

Instructional Materials:

  • Posters on fitness components
  • Stopwatch/timer
  • Cones or markers for outdoor activities
  • Charts explaining cardiovascular and muscular functions

Anticipation (Warm-Up) – 5 minutes:

Ask:

  • Why do some people get tired faster than others?
  • Do you think lifting heavy things makes you stronger?

Activity:

  • Learners perform 10 push-ups or modified push-ups

Building Knowledge (Main Lesson) – 25 minutes

Definition:

  • Components of physical fitness are different elements that make up a person’s fitness level.

Health-Related Fitness Components:

  1. Cardiovascular Endurance:
    • Ability of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen during sustained physical activity.
    • Example: Running, swimming, cycling.
  2. Muscular Strength:
    • Maximum amount of force a muscle can produce.
    • Example: Lifting weights, climbing stairs.

Demonstration:

  • Teacher demonstrates running in place for 60 seconds (cardiovascular)
  • Learners lift school bags or water bottles (muscular strength)

Learners’ Activities:

  • Record how many jumping jacks they can do in 30 seconds (measure endurance)
  • Try lifting different objects and estimate effort level (measure strength)
  • Group quiz: Match terms to definitions and examples

Consolidation (Review and Assessment) – 10 minutes

Review Questions:

  1. What is cardiovascular endurance?
  2. Mention an activity that shows muscular strength.
  3. Why is endurance important in daily life?

Mini Quiz:

  1. Which activity improves cardiovascular endurance? A. Drawing
    Cycling
    C. Sleeping
    D. Typing
  2. Muscular strength helps us to: A. Breathe faster
    Read better
    C. Lift heavy objects
    D. Improve vision

Homework / Assignment:

  1. Practice skipping rope for 3 minutes and write how you felt after.
  2. Ask a family member to tell you a task that needs strength at home.
  3. Draw and label the heart and one major muscle in the body.

Notes – Detailed and Explained:

Health-related fitness is essential for daily wellness. Cardiovascular endurance allows the body to work longer without fatigue. Muscular strength helps with lifting and resisting force. These components are measurable and improvable through consistent exercise.

Expanded Notes / Instructions:

  • Use real-life examples to show usefulness (e.g., carrying water, running to catch a bus)
  • Explain safety tips during physical exertion
  • Encourage daily activity in simple forms

Inclusive / Differentiation:

  • Allow learners with physical challenges to observe or demonstrate movements with gestures
  • Provide extra time or simplified instructions when needed

Teacher’s Reflection (Post-Lesson Questions):

  • Were learners active and engaged?
  • Did they show understanding through examples and practice?
  • How can the next lesson build on this knowledge?
