  3. Use active and passive voice appropriately within a paragraph.

Think-Pair-Share:
Think: Reflect on a time when you made an embarrassing writing mistake. Pair: Discuss how to prevent such mistakes with a partner. Share: Share one strategy with the class.

B – Building Knowledge (Core Content):

  1. Review Paragraph Components:
    • Topic sentence: focus and clarity.
    • Supporting sentences: detailed and relevant.
    • Concluding sentence: sums up and closes idea.
  2. Integration of Grammar:
    • Ensure subject-verb agreement.
    • Apply correct verb tense throughout the paragraph.
    • Use correct mechanics (punctuation, spelling, capitalization).
    • Incorporate both active and passive voice appropriately.
  3. Common Editing Mistakes:
    • Shift in tense.
    • Fragmented or run-on sentences.
    • Inconsistent pronoun usage.
    • Poor paragraph transitions.

Model Paragraph: "A good study routine improves academic performance. Students who study regularly retain more information. For instance, those who review notes daily perform better in exams. Additionally, effective study habits reduce stress. Therefore, every student should plan a daily schedule for learning."

C – Consolidation (Application and Reflection):
Class Activities:

  1. Edit a flawed paragraph (provided by the teacher) in groups of 3.
  2. Highlight corrections in tense, voice, and punctuation.
  3. Peer-review another student’s paragraph.

Assignment:

  • Write a paragraph (8–10 sentences) on one of the following: a) The benefits of group work b) Why students should read every day
    • Use one passive voice sentence and one active voice sentence.
    • Highlight all corrections you made after proofreading.
