  3. Use appropriate tone and format in writing a report.

 

A – Anticipation (Engage Learners):

Starter Questions:

  • What is the difference between a report and a story?
  • Who reads reports and why are they important?

Activity:

  • Read aloud a sample school report (e.g., "Report on the Clean-Up Day Campaign").
  • Class discussion: Identify what made it formal, factual, and organized.

 

B – Building Knowledge (Core Content):

  1. Definition of a Report:
  • A report is a formal account of an event, investigation, or research.
  • It should be objective, structured, and informative.
  1. Types of Reports:
  • School reports
  • Newspaper reports
  • Scientific reports
  1. Structure of a Report:
  • Title
  • Introduction (What happened, when and where)
  • Body (Details in chronological or logical order)
  • Conclusion/Recommendation
  1. Language Features:
  • Use of past tense
  • Formal and concise language
  • Passive voice when appropriate

Sample Report Headings:

  • “Report on the Inter-School Debate”
  • “Report on the Effects of Poor Sanitation in Our Community”

Guided Practice:

  • Together, write a short report on a recent school event using the structure above.

 

C – Consolidation (Application and Reflection):

Class Activity:

  • Students interview a partner about a recent class activity or trip.
  • Then write a report based on the interview in 4 clear paragraphs.

Assignment:

  • Write a full report (250–300 words) on one of the following:
  1. A workshop attended by students.
  2. A school community service project.
  • Include all elements: title, introduction, body, conclusion.
