Think: Write two sentences – one using "have/has" to talk about an experience, and one using "had" to describe a sequence of past events. Pair: Share with a partner and discuss if the verb forms are correct. Share: Volunteers read aloud. The teacher corrects mistakes and explains tense distinctions.
B – Building Knowledge (Core Content):
- Present Perfect Tense:
- Used for actions that occurred at an unspecified time or that continue to the present.
- Structure: Subject + has/have + past participle
- Examples: She has gone to the market. / I have eaten breakfast.
- Past Perfect Tense:
- Describes actions completed before another action in the past.
- Structure: Subject + had + past participle
- Examples: They had left before I arrived.
- Comparison Table:
Present Perfect(Action relevant to present)- I have finished my homework.
Past Perfect(Action completed before another)- He had gone before she called.
- Common Errors:
- Using present perfect with specific time: ❌ I have seen him yesterday. → ✅ I saw him yesterday.
- Confusing past perfect and past simple: ❌ I had went home. → ✅ I had gone home.
