  1. P – Probe (5–10 min)

Purpose: Activate prior knowledge and spark curiosity.

  • Teacher begins with a probing question:

“Think of a time you had to make a tough decision. What helped you choose?”

  • Teacher writes student responses (e.g., prayer, advice, personal feelings, experience).
  • Teacher reads aloud the opening stanza:
“In the quiet of the morning light, / Where wisdom blooms in gentle sight, / I seek Your guidance, Lord, so clear, / To make decisions without fear.”
  • Students respond: “What feelings or images does this stanza evoke?”

Teacher’s Role: Guide responses and link students’ answers to the theme of wisdom and discernment.

  1. E – Explore (15–20 min)

Purpose: Engage with the text actively.

  • Students read Stanzas I–IV in pairs.
  • Teacher highlights keywords: wisdom, discernment, understanding, righteousness.
  • Group activity: Each pair annotates one stanza (find imagery, metaphors, or keywords).
    • Example: Stanza II – “Your wisdom shines, guiding me” (imagery of light as understanding).
  • Selected pairs present their findings briefly.

Student Activity: Reading, annotation, pair-sharing.

  1. A – Analyze & Question (15–20 min)

Purpose: Develop critical thinking and deeper understanding.

  • Teacher poses higher-order questions:
  1. Why does the poet connect wisdom with “fear of the Lord” in Stanza V?
  2. What role does humility (Stanza IX) play in decision-making?
  3. How do metaphors of light, path, and peace enrich the theme?
  • Mini-task: Students identify one recurring motif (e.g., “light” or “path”) and explain how it connects to the central idea of discernment.
  • Teacher introduces key terms: symbolism, motif, tone, spiritual imagery.

Student Activity: Short written responses, peer discussion.

  1. R – Reflect & Relate (10–15 min)

Purpose: Connect literature to personal, social, or global contexts.

  • Reflection prompt (written or oral):

“Which stanza speaks most to your personal experience of making choices? Why?”

  • Students share short reflections in groups.
  • Creative option: Students sketch a symbolic image (e.g., lamp, crossroad, or path) representing wisdom in choices.

Student Activity: Reflection writing or drawing.

  1. L – Link & Extend (5–10 min)

Purpose: Consolidate learning and extend thinking beyond the lesson.

  • Teacher summarizes: Wisdom = seeking God, patience, humility, counsel, peace.
  • Extension tasks (choose one):
    • Write a comparative essay between this poem and Proverbs 3:5–6 or another text on wisdom.
    • Create a mock “social media post” from the poet’s perspective sharing a line of wisdom.
    • Prepare a 2-minute oral presentation analyzing the theme of discernment in the poem.

Assessment & Feedback

  • Formative: Teacher listens to discussions, checks annotations, observes group work.
  • Summative: Short reflective essay:

“Discuss how the poet presents wisdom as a guiding principle in decision-making.”

  • Peer and Self-assessment: Students exchange reflections and give one positive feedback note.
