  1. P – Probe (5–10 min)

Purpose: Activate prior knowledge and spark curiosity.

  • Teacher reads aloud selected lines from “God’s Healing Touch: A Symphony of Restoration.”
  • Prompt students:
    • “When you hear the phrase ‘healing and restoration,’ what comes to your mind?”
    • “Can brokenness truly become beautiful? How?”
  • Students predict themes and emotions they expect from the poem.

Teacher’s Role: Guide discussion, jot students’ ideas on the board.

  1. E – Explore (15–20 min)

Purpose: Engage actively with the text.

  • Students read aloud stanzas in turns (I–V).
  • Identify and annotate key literary devices: imagery, symbolism, repetition, metaphor.
  • Group activity:
    • Group A: Discuss the theme of healing in Stanza I.
    • Group B: Identify how forgiveness is portrayed in Stanza II.
    • Group C: Explore imagery of sorrow and comfort in Stanza III.

Student Activity: Highlight phrases, discuss in groups, share findings.

  1. A – Analyze & Question (15–20 min)

Purpose: Develop deeper understanding.

  • Teacher asks:
  1. Why does the poet use contrasting images (sorrow vs. comfort, weakness vs. strength)?
  2. How do the recurring motifs of “presence” and “love” shape meaning?
  3. What does the poet suggest about God’s role in restoration?
  • Students compare with other poems (e.g., psalms of lament or African healing songs).
  • Mini analytical task:
    • Identify one stanza where tone shifts from despair to hope.
    • Discuss how diction supports this shift.

  1. R – Reflect & Relate (10–15 min)

Purpose: Connect to personal/social/global contexts.

  • Students reflect:
    • “Have you ever felt broken and restored? How does this poem resonate with your experience?”
    • “What global issues (e.g., mental health, trauma recovery) can you relate to this poem?”
  • Creative task (choose one):
    • Write a short journal reflection.
    • Sketch a symbol of healing.
    • Compose 4 lines inspired by the poem.

  1. L – Link & Extend (5–10 min)

Purpose: Consolidate and extend learning.

  • Teacher summarizes themes: healing, forgiveness, redemption, hope.
  • Students share insights from journals/sketches.
  • Extension tasks:
    • Comparative essay: Compare this poem to a biblical psalm or another African poem on restoration.
    • Create a “social media post” capturing the theme (caption + short reflection).
