  1. P – Probe (5–10 min)

Purpose: Activate prior knowledge and spark curiosity.

  • Teacher reads a line from Stanza I: “In the moments of regret, where sins entwine, / Your call to repentance, divine.”
  • Probing questions:
    • “What does forgiveness mean to you?”
    • “Do you think redemption is possible after mistakes? Why or why not?”
  • Students predict what themes may be developed in the poem.

Teacher’s Role: Facilitate and list students’ responses on board.

  1. E – Explore (15–20 min)

Purpose: Engage with the poem actively.

  • Students read selected stanzas (I–V).
  • In groups, annotate and highlight imagery, metaphors, tone, symbolism.
  • Group Activity:
    • Group A: Discuss the call to repentance (Stanza I).
    • Group B: Explore how forgiveness is promised (Stanza II).
    • Group C: Analyze the joy of redemption (Stanza IV).

Student Activity: Share findings and illustrate how forgiveness brings inner peace.

  1. A – Analyze & Question (15–20 min)

Purpose: Develop critical thinking.

  • Teacher’s guiding questions:
  1. Why does the poet consistently link forgiveness with light and freedom?
  2. How does the structure (stanzas of plea → response → restoration) reflect the theme of redemption?
  3. What literary devices emphasize the transition from guilt to peace?
  • Mini-task: Compare “forgiveness” in Stanza II with “redemption” in Stanza IV. What similarities and differences can you find?

  1. R – Reflect & Relate (10–15 min)

Purpose: Connect to personal and social contexts.

  • Reflection prompts:
    • “Have you ever experienced forgiveness that brought relief? How?”
    • “What social or global issues (e.g., justice, reconciliation, healing after conflict) connect with this theme?”
  • Creative options:
    • Write a journal entry about a time you needed forgiveness.
    • Sketch an image that represents redemption.
    • Compose a short dialogue between two characters—one seeking forgiveness and one offering it.

  1. L – Link & Extend (5–10 min)

Purpose: Consolidate and extend.

  • Teacher summarizes central themes: repentance, forgiveness, restoration, hope.
  • Students share journal reflections or creative work.
  • Extension tasks:
    • Write a comparative essay: forgiveness in this poem vs. another literary or biblical text.
    • Create a “social media post” (caption + imagery) summarizing the poem’s theme.
    • Prepare an oral presentation on how imagery reinforces redemption in Adejoke Ajeyomi’s poem.
